Xin Zhang, PhD candidate in Environmental Health Sciences, was selected to join the interdisciplinary research on hearing and dementia, as part of the Johns Hopkins Cochlear Center Hearing and Aging Mentoring Program (JHU CHAMP).
The program, led by Dr. Jennifer A. Deal, Dr. Nicholas S. Reed, brings together students early in their doctoral training from audiologic, medicine and public health programs for an intensive, multidisciplinary, one-week research activity.
After group brainstorming and inspiring discussion with the Cochlear Center team, CHAMPs (mentees) are expected to complete rigorous analyses and draft a manuscript to answer a specific research question related to hearing. This year, their research is focusing on the interplay among noise exposure, hearing loss, and risk of dementia.
